Breastfeeding Nutrition with Freida’s Pantry
October 7, 2015 at 2:05 pm 0
If you are breastfeeding your newborn, you will have been told numerous times that your diet and nutrition are as important as ever. You burn an additional 500 calories per day when you breastfeed, so it is important to keep your calorie intake up, but with the right foods. As a new mum, you need a nutritious and balanced diet, but we all know how hard it is in those first few months to fit in time to make breakfast, let alone think about exciting things to cook and snack on. The guys at Freida's Pantry make this a whole lot easier for you.  (more…)

NCT Antenatal Classes
July 30, 2015 at 9:15 am 0
During your pregnancy (particularly if it's your first), you will likely be encouraged by your midwife or obstetrician to attend antenatal classes. Generally your hospital or birthing centre will run these and you usually attend towards the end of your second trimester or beginning of your third. You just have to remember to ask your midwife about how you register onto these. However, we found out about the NCT antenatal classes through a friend of ours, who highly recommended them. The NCT (National Childbirth Trust) is a charitable organisation, so you do have to pay for these classes, but we found they were well worth the money. (more…)

Gro Egg – Review

Something that many parents kept telling us to buy when we'd discuss essentials for our new baby, was a room thermometer. With the horrible subject of SIDS (cot death) on peoples' minds and ensuring that baby is always at the optimum temperature, it definitely seemed like an essential purchase. So I spent much of my maternity leave shopping online (or "nesting", as I liked to call it), much to the horror of my husband, when all these parcels kept arriving each day. And a product that kept coming-up in search engines and twitter feeds, was the Gro Egg room thermometer. (more…)

The Tree of Life – Merci Maman Jewellery
May 22, 2015 at 9:53 am 5
When I stumbled across Merci Maman Boutique, I instantly fell in love with its charm and delicate selection of jewellery. For any mum-to-be, mother or grandmother, the selection of jewellery can be personalised and makes the ideal gift and keepsake. I believe none other than the Royal Duchess of Cambridge herself has been seen wearing one of the wonderful collection. So I knew I was in good company when I placed my order for the Tree of Life Chain Bracelet. I am in love with rose gold at the moment and don't currently own anything in the colour, so knew straight away that that was what I wanted. My favourite thing about the Merci Maman Boutique, is that everything can be personalised and engraved with a personal message or names.  (more…)

Now I'm past the 5 month mark, I've started to shop for bits, picking up bargains as and when I see them. I don't want to get everything right away and have nothing to enjoy over the next 4 months, but I also don't want to be in a mad rush on maternity leave trying to get things.  (more…)

New Look Maternity Jeans – Review
March 23, 2015 at 6:59 pm 2
As your bump is ever-expanding, you'll probably find that you can no longer get away with your regular jeans, particularly skinny jeans! I felt uncomfortable in mine around 12 weeks, but for some it's sooner than that and for some it's later. At that stage, you'll definitely want to start the fun that is shopping for maternity jeans. I have to say that my best maternity wear buy so far, are my New Look Skinny Maternity Jeans. I started wearing these around 12 weeks and am still wearing them now at 20 weeks and can see there's still plenty of room for growth. (more…)

Fetal Doppler – Hear your baby’s heartbeat
March 17, 2015 at 8:53 pm 0
I think all hospitals are different, but at our antenatal appointments, we weren't able to listen in to our little bean's heartbeat. Some of my friends were able to at their scans, so I presume it comes down to equipment at each hospital (and good ol' NHS budget). Me being me, a bit of a worrier, I felt like we were missing out on this important part of pregnancy. It also seemed a lifetime between the first scan and the 20-week scan. So we thought we'd go online to see if we could buy our own fetal doppler - ie a piece of equipment to listen to our baby's heartbeat.  (more…)

Mothercare Maternity Bras – review

One of the first things you may notice, when finding our you're pregnant, is the rapid nature in which your boobs change! I started to really notice mine around Week 8, when they ballooned in size, were fuller than ever and ached. My hubby was shocked at the rapid change, as was I, when I compared photos from a couple of weeks earlier. My regular bras no longer fit and the under-wiring felt restrictive and painful. But it felt too soon to be buying special underwear! But it wasn't! As soon as your body starts to change during pregnancy, you need to react to it and make yourself as comfortable as possible. ASOS Maternity Clothes Haul

Within the first trimester, at around 9 weeks into my pregnancy, I was already beginning to realise the importance of maternity clothes. Although you may not be officially "showing", if you're anything like me, you're feeling bloated and your skinny jeans and high-waisted skirts are no longer entirely comfortable. I must admit, pre-12 weeks did feel a bit early to start purchasing maternity clothes, however, that's what they're there for and you have to wear clothes almost all day, so it's important to be comfy! Plus, there's the wonderful phenomenon of online shopping, so you don't even have to venture out to the shops and risk someone seeing you in the maternity section and discovering your "little secret".
